Charles Umbrafall is the chosen Hero of Light, the sole soldier in a secret war against a world of darkness that steals people away and threatens to swallow the light whole. Unlike his predecessors, Charles cannot simply journey into the dark and declare war. He must first find his sister, who, when they were children, was stolen by the darkness. Trapped between his duty as a Hero and his desire to bring his sister home, Charles must determine where he stands in two worlds more complex and deadly than he could ever imagine. Luckily, his hired security seems more keen on puzzling out the Dark World's secrets than what he was hired for, and some of the Dark World's people still hold their own against the monsters who hunger for the light.
